Porites
Porites
Common names: boulder coral, Christmas tree worm rock
Difficulty Level: Porites are extremely demanding and hard to keep. They are not impossible but require very stable conditions and well established tank.
Feeding: Their very small polyps limit their ability to capture food, but small particles are a good supplement to their diet.
Lighting (Level 7 to 10): Porites are moderately adaptive, but very strong lighting is usually needed to keep them healthy.
Water flow: Extremely strong turbulent or oscillating flow is needed to keep the skin of these coral clean and growing.
Placement: Porites are not very aggressive, but their sensitivity dictates they be placed away from corals with strong stings.
General: Steady calcium and alkalinity is key to the health or these corals.
