wpid-Untitled-1-3.jpg

iBluewater just seems to keep throwing the amazing, rare clowns at us, and today they got another one. This blue spotted picasso maroon clownfish is extremely rare, possibly the only one in captivity, and was even collected in the same area as the lightning clowns. This one may not be quite as beautiful as the lightnings, but it certainly is interesting enough to make discerning collectors think twice. Read more »

Rare Clown Hawkfish at Oculus Aquatics

Clown-Hawkfish-Oculus-Aquatics

Oculus Aquatics is usually known for their rare and beautiful corals, but this week they are showing off an extremely rare hawkfish instead. The clown hawkfish, Cirrhitus rivulatus, is not your typical hawk reaching an unusually large size and getting extremely aggressive. These monsters are even known to attempt eating fish as large as themselves, however, for those with large fish aggressive tanks, this could be that fish that really sets their collection apart from the rest. As always Oculus Aquatics is wholesale only, so get a hold of your local dealer for this rare fish.

Lightning Maroon Clownfish Spawning Announced by Matt Pedersen

Announced this morning by Matt Pedersen via The Lightning Project, the lightning maroon/standard maroon pair have finally spawned for the first time! This ongoing project has been shooting for the stars with the goal of getting some more lightning maroon clowns out of the half pair for longer than most would have patience for, but with the amazing looks of these fish, it should soon be worth it.

Recently I reported on Quality Marine’s new collector series fish that would be made up of rare fish collected by the best collectors in the world, and it would seem that Live Aquaria decided to get a hold of one of their first pairs. These nahacki’s wrasses are a special find any time, but the pair coming in tonight’s Diver’s Den was actually collected by the fish’s discoverer, Tony Nahacky! A certificate of their collection origins will be shipped out to the pair’s buyer after the fish ship. I wondered how Quality Marine was going to establish live animals as being collectables, and they didn’t let me down. Better stake out a spot on Diver’s Den tonight for this one!

Quality Marine’s Possible Centropyge Heraldi, Centropyge Woodheadi Hybrid

Quality Marine is showing off a new angel this week that caught my eye and got me wondering exactly what it is. This interesting angel at first appears to be a pretty standard variant of one of the common yellow angels, but upon closer inspection, interesting patterns on its fins can be seen. Quality Marine said, about the fish, that they can’t be sure without DNA testing, but it appears to be a hybrid class between a centropyge heraldi and a centropyge woodheadi. This one of a kind fish won’t likely be around at their facility for long, so if you’re interested, contact your local dealer quickly.

Diver’s Den brings in amazing livestock every day, but for them even the most expensive tang, zebrasoma gemmatum or gem tang, is a rare sight. Today they announced the arrival of one of these amazingly rare and beautiful specimens, but at a common price well into the thousands, this doesn’t put it in reach of us all yet.
