Tunze DOC 9430 Protein Skimmer to Replace 9440

Tunze announced recently that the old double-pump 9440 protein skimmer will be replaced with a new, more efficient, single pump version with the designation DOC 9430. This new design achieves nearly the same rating, but it’s single pump does it with a power savings over the old twin-pumps and this also means fewer parts to fail and less to clean.

Nano Sized Protein Skimmer by Aqua Excel AESumi Announced

Aqua Excel released a nano sized protein skimmer this week with features no other little skimmer can match. Though this one only takes up 5.5 x 2.6 x 10 inches, it comes with full sizes skimmer features such as surface skimming, needle wheel pump, bubble plate, adjustable cup and even some bubble reduction. It’s rated for up to 25 gallons and comes with a low price tag of just $40. This one should definitely be a contender on the nano protein skimmer list.

Fish Street Zeovit Reactor Uses Magnetic Forces to Help Stir

The Zeovit system is continuing to take off, and with reactors being a center piece of it, other companies are putting more and more effort into designing for it. A new design from Fish Street is using an interesting idea with magnetic poles being used to repell each other and help stir the reactor media. This bouncing motion should help to keep the media cleaner and the system working better.

Gnome Glass Nano Protein Skimmers

While at Reefstock and the aftermath, I got a close look at some interesting new products coming from a local glass blower called Gnome Glass. Of the different things they make, the hand blown glass protein skimmers made for nano applications caught my eye. These simple glass tubes are run on wooden airstones like many cheaper options on the market, but they appear to do it with high quality performance in mind.
