Lately I’ve had a lot of face time with Innovative Marine‘s line of products. First I got to review both the 10k and 14k versions of their 8 watt LED light. Next came the 30 watt Skyye Tablet LED and 8 gallon Nuvo Aquarium, and finally I got a chance to check out the 4 gallon Nuvo. All of these products came nicely packaged and easily had the features to stack up to the competition, but I was left yearning for a look at something bigger. Innovative Marine’s 16 gallon Nuvo answered the call, and as you will see it follows in their tradition of catching the details and making small innovations that really count.

As with the smaller versions in the Nuvo line, the 16 gallon is feature packed with things like Starphire glass, large filter area, well thought out glass top, filter media basket and trick stand. I’m not going to get in to as much detail because I’ve done that with the similar features of their other tanks, but there are a couple of key differences I would like to touch on.

With the larger size of the Innovative Marine 16 gallon Nuvo Aquarium comes an extra overflow, extra media basket, extra filter chamber and extra return nozzle. The best part of these added features is the added filter chamber. Within the already spacious filter area is an added constant level chamber, and with a total of two, this means some interesting things can be done. They can be used for a refugium, skimmer compartment or heater chamber, and because there are two of them, you can pick any combo of these you would like.

I can’t leave this one alone, yet again, without commenting on the acrylic stand. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. The simple innovation of the black stand makes this tank. The simple lines created by the open air beneath the tank defines the look as an Innovative Marine creation and truly sets it apart from others.
