I was contacted with a request to write an editorial covering the upcoming release of the SeneyeAquarium Monitor. If you’re like me, you’ve never heard the name Seneye, but get used to hearing it, a lot! The fine group of dedicated hobbyists turned company have developed what is in my opinion going to be the absolute best aquarium monitor on the market to date. Seneye will become as common a name among enthusiasts as Vortech.
Since first seeing and hearing about this new light from EcoTech Marine, I’ve been dying to get some up close time with it, and today I finally got that chance. The statistics on these lights may be amazing, but pictures or even first hand accounts of them over actual reef tanks don’t seem to be out there yet. After un-boxing and playing with Aqua Illumination’s new nano LED fixture yesterday, I couldn’t wait to get some coral filled water under it. After placing it over several aquariums, I found that is easily penitrates over a foot deep and covers up to about 24″ X 24″, but the mounting arm looks most at home over a smaller tank, such as the AquaMedic Yasha it’s currently over.
Recently a unique new phenomenon has been observed at Southern California’s San Diego Beach in which the tides glow with bio-luminescents. This glowing effect is due to a red tide species which actually glows in self defense at night, and the lunar cycles absence of the moon right now only makes the show all the better.

So you finally are getting the reef tank of your dreams. In your mind’s eye you are visualizing the pristine aquarium you’ve seen in dozens of pictures on-line. Gorgeously colored coral and fish, coralline covered live rock and perfectly white sands. I’m going to put a smear on your image. There are five very nasty, ugly, devastating pests that are common in the industry and have the potential to steal the spot-light when your aquarium is viewed. It’s not if you get invaded by at least one of these pests, it’s when and what should you do when it happens.
This fixture has been with me for several weeks now, and after making you wait, it’s finally time for the in-depth review! As you should already know, the revolutionary Vortech pump maker, EcoTech Marine, entered the lighting market this year with their Radion XR30w, and with crazy features like wireless pump communication and RGB color control, it promises to be something never achieved before. A few weeks back, I got up close and personal with these lights, but didn’t get the true feel of running one myself until this review. Follow along after the break as I dive in deep with this one.
Aqua Illumination’s new Phoenix fixture appears to be loosely based on the classic AI SOL, but its wireless communications bring the bar up by adding cloud cover modes that can move across a tank. This video is of the sped up demo mode of clouds passing.
The LED market is incredibly confusing, and with so many companies out there, it can be hard to find the right light for your tank. I’m going to start putting out a guide every month that highlights one LED solution to several situations. These will be: nano, budget, high end and cutting edge.
